If the idea of a highly Chlorinated pool fills you with dread and you are looking for a solution , there is an alterative.
OK so you will need to have some Chlorine but we are talking 0.3 – 0.5 ppm which for those who know water chemistry, is around the levels found in UK tap water. The reason you still need to have a small amount of Chlorine is that when the system is off you still need a sanitiser in the water (the system only runs when the pump is on).
The system is a highly polished stainless steel chamber through which the water flows past UVC light(s) which actually suffocates 99% of the virus and bacteria as it passes through the chamber, killing bacteria that Chlorine alone cannot. Chlorine reacts with organic compounds creating by-products like chloramines and THM (trihalomethane). Chloramines are the principal cause of strong smell, itchy eyes and runny nose.
UV light destroys chloramines effectively reducing these side effects.
